The Porto Card as a ticket for local transport

The Porto Card with transport option allows you unlimited travel on almost all means of public transport in Porto. The following means of transport are included (or not included):

  • Metro (subway) - 6 lines in the city area (incl. airport line). Free of charge.
  • Buses (STCP) - all city bus lines. Free to use.
  • Suburban trains (CP) - local trains in the Porto area. Free of charge.
  • Historic trams - not included (ticket extra).
  • Cable car & Funicular - not included (discount ~10%/25% with Porto Card).

Practical use

  1. Obtain card: Available in Porto (tourist information, e.g. airport) or online in advance. You will receive two cards: the Porto Card (admissions) and an Andante Tour as a bus & train ticket.
  2. Activate: Validate** the ticket at the yellow validator on the first journey - this starts the validity period.
  3. On every journey: Hold the ticket at the validator on every boarding (even when changing trains). Ticket validators are located at metro entrances and on the bus by the driver. A green signal confirms validation.
  4. Inspection: Show your ticket at a ticket inspection. The staff will scan it electronically. Without a valid validation, you may be fined.

Operating hours: Metro approx. 6:00-0:30 am, buses until 1:00 am. After that, night buses run (e.g. 3M). Weekends similar; less traffic at night.

Important lines for tourists

  • Airport & train stations: Metro line E runs from Porto airport to the city center in ~30 min. Alternatively, STCP buses run between the airport and the city center. The São Bento train station is centrally located (metro line D).
  • Sightseeing: Many sights (e.g. Ribeira district) are within walking distance of the Aliados and São Bento metro stations. Metro line D also runs across the Douro to Jardim do Morro - ideal for visiting the port wine cellars.
  • Beaches: Metro line A takes you to the city beach in Matosinhos in 30 minutes.
