FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Porto Card

What variants of the Porto Card are available and what is included?+

There are two variants of the Porto Card: one with public transport and one without. Both are available for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days.

With public transport (most popular variant): Unlimited use of metro, STCP city buses, selected private bus lines and suburban trains (CP) in the greater Porto area. Not included are historic trams, Gaia cable car and dos Guindais funicular (but small discounts are available here).

Without public transport: Only admission discounts and free access to attractions, but no transport.

Additionally, the Porto Card offers over 150 benefits and discounts: free access to 5 museums, 50% discount on 10 monuments and up to 50% off tours, restaurants, shops and cultural activities.

How much does the Porto Card cost?+

The prices of the Porto Card (as of 2025) depend on validity period and variant:

With public transport:

  • 1 Day: €15
  • 2 Days: €27
  • 3 Days: €32
  • 4 Days: €41.50

Without public transport:

  • 1 Day: €7.50
  • 2 Days: €12
  • 3 Days: €16
  • 4 Days: €18

Important: Children pay the same price as adults -- there are no reduced children's rates. However, for groups of 20+ cards there is a 10% discount.

How long is the Porto Card valid and when does validity begin?+

The Porto Card is valid for 24, 48, 72 or 96 hours (depending on the chosen duration). The time runs from the first use, as the card is only activated upon first use.

Example: If you have a 48-hour card and use it for the first time on Monday at 10 AM, it is valid until Wednesday at 10 AM.

Special feature for transport tickets:

  • 2-day card: You receive two separate 24h tickets. Use one for the first 24 hours, the second for the second day. Never validate both on the same day!
  • 4-day card: You receive one 72h ticket and one 24h ticket. Use the 72h ticket first, then the 24h ticket for the last day.
Where can I buy the Porto Card and how does digital use work?+

Yes, you can use the Porto Card digitally. After purchasing online, you receive a voucher that you exchange for the physical card at official sales points.

Official sales points:

  • Tourism office at Porto Airport
  • Porto Welcome Center at Se Cathedral in the old town
  • Trindade Tourism Office

At these locations you can also buy the Porto Card directly without online booking. Simply show your voucher or buy spontaneously on-site.

For use in public transport, you must validate the Andante Tour ticket for each journey and scan it again when changing.

Do I need to reserve attractions or tours in advance?+

Usually no -- for most museums and attractions no reservation is required and often not even possible. You can go spontaneously with your Porto Card.

Exceptions requiring reservation:

  • Guided city tours (bus, tuk-tuk)
  • Port wine cellar visits
  • Tours with limited capacity

For these offers, advance registration or booking is advisable to secure your place. The Porto Card does not entitle you to skip queues -- you get discounts or free admission, but must queue at regular entrances.

Is the Porto Card transferable and can I visit attractions multiple times?+

No, the Porto Card is personalized and non-transferable. Each traveler needs their own card, as it is registered to one person upon collection.

Sharing or joint use of one card for multiple people is excluded. Also, each benefit can only be used once per Porto Card -- you can only visit each attraction once with the Porto Card.

For families: Since there are no children's discounts, each family member (including toddlers) needs their own Porto Card. For larger groups (20+ people) there is however a 10% discount on the total price.

Can I cancel the Porto Card and are there additional discounts?+

Yes, when purchasing through official partners like Tiqets or GetYourGuide, you can cancel the Porto Card free of charge up to 24 hours before the planned usage date. This gives you flexibility if your travel plans change at short notice.

After this 24-hour deadline, cancellation is usually no longer possible.

Additional discounts: The Porto Card offers various partner discounts:

  • Eurorail, Interrail Pass, ACP/ARC members: 10-50% discount
  • Students and Porto University members (groups of 5+): Discount available
  • Travel agencies and tour operators: 10% discount
  • Groups of 20+ cards: Automatically 10% discount
